Welcome to The Nit Fairies
The Nit Fairies is based in Midlothian, VA, just outside of Richmond. We provide lice advice, school, camp, and daycare screenings as well as treatment of lice for families in need. The Nit Fairies have established themselves as being a dependable and trustworthy company with only one goal, the well-being of our clients.
Although head lice are not known to be a health hazard, they do live on human blood and the bites cause a maddening itch. The scratching can result in a secondary infection. Children are most vulnerable because of their close proximity and head to head contact with playmates at schools and daycares. Schools around the country dismiss students who have these annoying little pests and will not allow them to return until treatment is received and all nits are removed.
Our specialists are experienced, fast and efficient! Removal of nits alone could take an inexperienced parent hours, days, or even weeks to complete. Some parents believe that they keep getting infested; however, they usually have not broken the cycle from the first infestation. Our Staff members use the Shepherd Method along with combing to eradicate these pests. Average time for a family of four is 1 ½ to 2 hours, however, time may vary due to severity of infestation, length and thickness of hair, number of family members, and cooperation of the child.
An adult louse is approximately the size of a grain of rice while a nit, louse egg, is the size of a comma in a magazine. One louse has a life span of about 30 days and can lay up to 120 nits during that time span. Lice can only live if they have human blood to sustain them. If driven off the scalp, the louse could survive up to 48 hrs. The correct treatment of lice and lice removal are vitally important to rid our family of these pests. That is the reason our lice help and head lice removal service is regarded as top of the line.
For years it has been the typical belief that unclean surrounds and dirty hair attract head lice, but, it has been proven to be fallacy. They prefer clean hair and have a hard time laying their nits on oily, soiled hair shafts. Lice cannot live in your home, carpet or beds for more than 48 hours without feeding and can never live on your pets. They do not fly of jump; the only way they can be transferred is through the actual touch of the heads or items that have recently touched an infested head. Adult lice can sometimes be seen in the hair. More often only the nits are found around the ears or at the nape of the neck. Our staff will instruct and inform the family of cleaning that needs to be done around the home during treatment process.
Pediatricians are not recommending the common over-the-counter lice medications (ex: Nix and Rid). They contain pesticides that can be harsh and dangerous to some. Some lice strains have mutated through the years and are becoming immune to these products.
